In what was a game for the ages, the Vancouver Canucks ultimately dropped their opening night game to the Calgary Flames in a nailbiter that went to overtime. Postgame, J.T. Miller & Brock Boeser comment to discuss what went wrong in their OT collapse.

Everything seemed to be going the Canucks' way after the first 20 minutes of regulation time as they went up 4-1 on the Calgary Flames. But, once the second period began, it all started to go downhill steadily. It was clear that this was the trend moving forward as they were outshot 21-10 after the first period and outscored 5-1.

The Flames clawed back with one goal in the second, and the followed suit with 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd to take the lead the 5-4.

With just over a minute left, and an empty net, Captain Quinn Hughes made an unbelievable play to save a goal and gave a big opportunity to Miller who took full advantage. Unfortunately, in this wild game, the Canucks came up empty in overtime.

J.T. Miller & Brock Boeser comment on the Vancouver Canucks' level of play

«We didn't win any battles. Yeah, we just played loose, like summer hockey. And you know, this is good for us. At the end of the day, it's game one. Last year we won eight-one, and we're going to say the same thing going to the next game. We got to turn the page, but we need to learn and raise our intensity.»- J.T. Miller

Brock Boeser

«They outcompeted us those last two periodsWe know it's unacceptable. We have to learn from it.» - Brock Boeser

It was a great night individually for both Boeser and Miller, the former tallied 2 great goals and the ladder achieved a Gordie Howe hat trick in his 800th career game.

Nonetheless, both of them are correct, the compete level was not there and as leaders, they need to set the standard and lead the team in the direction they see fit.
