Mark Messier's time in Vancouver was rocky. When Messier signed with Vancouver in 1997, he became the 2nd highest player in the NHL.

His time in Vancouver did not turn out how anyone hoped, with the team missing playoffs each of his three years there.

Messier's arrival also resulted in the Canucks hiring Mike Keenan and Messier unseating Trevor Linden as captain of the team.

In an interview with Daily Hive, the NHL legend addressed taking the 'C' from Linden and said if he could do things again, he wouldn't have done that. Messier addressed the situation in a recent interview and revealed that he would've done things differently:

I would never have done that again because it's hard to unseat a sitting captain.

Messier said he should have "led from behind" Linden, but the expectations around Vancouver that season were also unreasonable. According to the Hockey Hall of Famer, the Nucks were expected to win a Stanley Cup amidst a full-rebuild.

It's safe to say Messier would do things differently if given a chance.
