LATEST | Important development in the Chris Tanev derby and the Canucks
Chris Tanev's name has been a constant in trade rumours since the regular season began.
The 34 year old is a pending UFA, and a number of teams have had rumoured interest in him, including his former team the Vancouver Canucks.
Insider Elliotte Friedman said on the 32 Thoughts podcast however, despite mutual interest between the Canucks and Tanev, he doesn't think they're the team who can pull it off.
Vancouver... I don't think they can do it, at this time at least, I think they like him,
Friedman said.
Friedman didn't get into details about what's holding a trade back, but the Canucks have less than 2 million in cap space and would struggle to accommodate Tanev's salary even at 50% retained.
The insider says with the interest around the league and Flames not wanting to risk an injury to Tanev, he could see a move coming sooner than later.
