An NHL insider has given a pretty big update on the likelihood of the Vancouver Canucks and Brock Boeser coming to terms on a new contract before July 1st.
The National Hockey League's trade deadline came and went on Friday with the Vancouver Canucks standing pat and
not trading Brock Boeser, who is set to be a free agent in less than four months.
General Manager Patrik Allvin said that they tried to move Brock Boeser, but the offers weren't to their liking, adding that the value just wasn't there.
Frank Seravalli believes Brock Boeser will hit free agent market
During an appearance on Canucks Central earlier this week, NHL insider Frank Seravalli discussed the comments made by Patrik Allvin after the trade deadline and where he thinks things will go with Brock Boeser.
Seravalli said that he believes Brock Boeser will test the free agent market when it opens at 9 am PT on Canada Day as a result of what happened (or didn't happen) on Friday.
"Frank Seravalli on Canucks Central believes Friday's fallout will lead to Brock Boeser testing free agency" Dan Riccio of Canucks Central said on X.
By not trading Brock Boeser on Friday, the Canucks now run that risk that Frank Seravalli mentions of the pending UFA going to market on July 1st and it's something that
Patrik Allvin touched on late last week.
"Yeah, I guess with the outcome of today. I didn't really have any other options, that's part of the business and the risk you have to take to be in it." Allvin said.
The Vancouver Canucks and Brock Boeser's camp have discussed a contract at times throughout the 2024-25 season as the club needs goal scoring going forward and the pending UFA has proven that he can put the puck in the back of the net.
Reports circulated late last month
that the Canucks offered Brock Boeser a five-year contract worth $40 million USD ($8 million AAV), but it was turned down as the Burnsville, Minnesota native is seeking a longer-term deal, probably in the seven or eight year range.
Vancouver Canucks fans are hoping that the two sides will be able to come to an agreement on a contract before July 1st and that the five-time 20+ goal scorer remains a crucial part of the organization for years to come.
