It's been nearly a week since J.T. Miller was traded by the Vancouver Canucks and some new information has come to light about a prospect Patrik Allvin wanted from the New York Rangers.

Last Friday, after weeks and weeks of rumors and a report of a rift between him and Elias Pettersson, the Vancouver Canucks traded forward J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers in exchange for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini and a first-round pick.

Vancouver Canucks attempted to get highly-coveted prospect in J.T. Miller trade

The New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks went back and forth for weeks on a J.T. Miller trade, with one offer reportedly involving Mika Zibanejad in a 1-for-1, which was turned down by Patrik Allvin.
Both sides were able to come to an agreement on a trade last Friday and while the Vancouver Canucks are happy with getting 22-year-old defenseman Victor Mancini, it turns out he wasn't their initial target.
In Thursday's edition of 32 Thoughts, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared, citing Arthur Staple of The Athletic, that the Vancouver Canucks wanted prospect Drew Fortescue included in the J.T. Miller trade, but New York Rangers GM Chris Drury said no.
"The Athletic's Arthur Staple reported New York was unwilling to part with 2023 90th overall selection Drew Fortescue, a defenceman at NCAA Boston College. Vancouver will be happy with Victor Mancini, but Fortescue was an original target. Rangers GM Chris Drury knows him very well, as his son, Luke, was a minor-hockey teammate for several seasons." Friedman said.

Fortescue was selected in the third round by the New York Rangers in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and has spent the last two seasons in the NCAA with Boston College, helping his school to the 2024 NCAA National Championship, where they lost to Denver.
New York Rangers scouts were quite high on Drew Fortescue heading into the 2023 draft as they liked his skating and that he was mobile, but also that he plays with a bit of an edge and brings a physical presence to the blue line.
Ultimately, as mentioned, the Vancouver Canucks ended up with Victor Mancini and he's someone that they're happy to have in the organization and they believe he can be a big piece to the team's success for years to come.
