NHL insider Frank Seravalli believes the Vancouver Canucks reportedly trying to get ahead of the curve on trade market, and their main target is Calgary Flames defensemen, Rasmus Andersson.

After a bit of a slow start through their first three games this season, the Vancouver Canucks fired off four straight wins before seeing that streak snap at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime on Monday night.

There's no question that the Vancouver Canucks are looking for help on the blue line, especially in their top-four, which was mentioned recently. It's never easy to make trades at this time of year because teams are still trying to figure out where they're at and want to be patient with their respective rosters to allow for chemistry to build and to potentially be in a good position in the standings by American Thanksgiving.

However, it appears that the Vancouver Canucks may be wanting to get in on the trade market sooner rather than later, as Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported on Tuesday morning

Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin beginning to make calls

While on Canucks Central this morning, Seravalli said that Patrik Allvin has begun making calls to see what the market is looking like in terms of defencemen.

"They're already making calls to understand what the market looks like to improve this team's defence. They want to continue to push the envelope." Seravalli said on Canucks Central on Tuesday.

Two potential trade targets mentioned by Clarke Corsan of Canucks Army are Rasmus Andersson of the Calgary Flames and Marcus Pettersson of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Andersson is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season and has a cap hit of $4.55, while Pettersson has a cap hit of just over $4 million but will be an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day 2025.

Patrik Allvin will likely be patient and wait things out before trying to bring in a defenceman rather than overpaying right now for someone like Rasmus Andersson, who's having an incredible start to the 2024-25 campaign - ten points in nine games. Andersson would make a lot of sense for the Vancouver Canucks' blue line.

He's mobile, skates well and has a bit of edge, along with the ability of producing offence. The 28-year-old would also be a good powerplay option for Rick Tocchet. We'll wait and see how things develop on the trade market and if Andersson begins to slow down a bit, potentially his value drops (only slightly), then it would be the perfect time for Patrik Allvin to strike.
