The National Hockey League made a statement involving Vancouver Canucks teammates Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes on Wednesday.

In a social media post on Wednesday evening, the National Hockey League highlighted rookies from the last nine seasons. With a strong rookie class coming into next season featuring North Vancouver native Macklin Celebrini and Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov, the NHL posed the question of whether the top-scoring rookie would have over or under 65 points during the 2024-25 season.

"Over/Under? The top-scoring rookie will record 65 points in 2024-25.

Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, Matvei Michkov and Logan Stankoven are among prospects who could have a big rookie season in 2024-25."

In the last nine seasons, the most points in a single campaign by a rookie was Coquitlam, B.C.'s Mathew Barzal in 2017-18. A pair of Vancouver Canucks have also led the National Hockey League in points by a rookie in the last nine seasons, as was shared in their social media post on Wednesday.

In 2018-19, Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson led the NHL in points as a rookie with 66 and one season later, Quinn Hughes did the same, finishing the 2019-20 campaign with 51 points.

Since their rookie seasons, Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes have grown considerably and have been mentioned among the best in the National Hockey League at their respective positions. Since entering the NHL, Pettersson and Hughes have 412 and 333 points, respectively.
