Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is going to have a pretty big decision to make in June when the team steps to the podium at the draft, with their position close to being confirmed.

Earlier this week, the Vancouver Canucks' were mathematically eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention, which was quite disappointing for fans after the success the team had last season.
There could be plenty of change to the Vancouver Canucks' roster this summer with opportunities via trade and free agency to upgrade their forward group, but before they get to that point, focus will be on the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

Vancouver Canucks' draft position close to being confirmed

In a little over two months, the National Hockey League's new decentralized draft format will get underway at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California, with all eyes on the first overall pick with James Hagens, Michael Misa, Matthew Schaefer and Anton Frondell all vying for being the top selection.
For the Vancouver Canucks, it looks like they won't have a chance at that first overall pick, which is to be expected based on the lottery odds and it appears that we're getting closer to seeing where they'll pick.
According to Noah Strang of Daily Hive, it's looking like the Vancouver Canucks will be selecting anywhere from 14th to 16th overall in the first round of this year's draft, if Patrik Allvin opts to keep the pick rather than trading it, which is a possibility.
"All of that means the Canucks are likely to finish between the 14th and 16th slots in the draft lottery. Because NHL teams can move up a maximum of 10 spots in the lottery, this means the Canucks no longer have a chance at getting the first overall pick." Strang said.

Who could the Vancouver Canucks select at this year's draft?

The 2025 NHL Entry Draft isn't expected to be as deep as previous years, but there are a handful of names to keep an eye on.
If Vancouver opts for a defenseman, one player to watch is Kashawn Aitcheson of the Ontario Hockey League's Barrie Colts, where he's teammates with Vancouver Canucks prospects Anthony Romani and Riley Patterson.
Aitcheson plays a strong two-way game and is a physical menace night in, night out for the Barrie Colts.
The 6'1" blueliner set the Barrie Colts single-season goals record by a defenseman this season and while his offense and physical play get most of the attention, he's very good in his own zone, with an active stick breaking up opponent's scoring opportunities.
Should Patrik Allvin decide he wants to take a forward, two names to keep an eye on are Justin Carbonneau and Bill Zonnon, both of whom play in the Quebec Maritimes Junio Hockey League.
Carbonneau put up 89 points (46 goals, 43 assists) in 62 games for Blainville-Boisbriand, while Zonnon appeared in 64 games for Rouyn-Noranda, registering 83 points (28 goals, 55 assists).
