Roster Move: Vancouver Canucks Make Necessary Decision with Goalie Arturs Silovs
The Vancouver Canucks are sending goalie Arturs Silovs to the AHL Abbotsford Canucks, with the team apparently ready to hand the reins in the crease to Thatcher Demko.
The 23 year old Silovs has struggled at the NHL level this season after taking over the crease admirably in the 2024 NHL Playoffs.
Silovs last played on November 27 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, allowing 5 goals on 23 shots and in 7 games has an .847 save percentage and 4.11 GAA.
He has played one game at the AHL level this season, stopping 23 of 25 shots in a victory.
Silovs hasn't appeared in game action in 10 days since suiting up in Pittsburgh, and with Demko's imminent return set to crowd the crease, the youngster is unlikely to see game action in quite some time.

Silovs impressive 10 game showing in the NHL playoffs gave the organization and fans reason for optimism, but early returns show that he needs more AHL seasoning.
While the 23 year old was impressive in last year's playoff run, he is still incredibly young for an NHL goalie, and throughout his career only boasts an .877 save percentage in the NHL regular season.
Playing consistently in Abbotsford could be the best thing for Silovs long term, and with Kevin Lankinen signed to just a one year contract they will likely count on Silovs to step up as back-up goalie next season.
He's on the first of a two year deal worth $850,000 per season.
