The Next Big Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Prospect Parker Alcos Shares important Message with Canucks Fans
Vancouver Canucks prospect Parker Alcos is looking to elevate his game this season in the Western Hockey League.
The Vancouver Canucks' prospect pool is full of talent and among those is Parker Alcos, a defenceman from the Western Hockey League's Edmonton Oil Kings who they selected with the 189th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Alcos is in his second full season in the Western Hockey League with Edmonton, where so far, he's registered three assists, 14 penalty minutes and is a plus-nine in 15 games.
Parker Alcos hoping to take a big step during 2024-25 season
Recently, Parker Alcos spoke with Adam Kierszenblat of The Hockey News where he discussed the 2024-25 season and that he wants to take a step forward and grow the offensive side of his game.
""I think the biggest thing for me to add will be my offensive impact on the game. Being able to be more offensive, be more of a threat in the O zone. I feel like the D zone, I'm pretty defensive and pretty good overall, but I think in the offensive zone, I should be able to get more pucks on net and make better plays to our forwards to have a better chance of scoring." Alcos told Kierszenblat.
It's been a bit of an up-and-down season so far for Parker Alcos' Edmonton Oil Kings, as they sit seventh in the WHL's Eastern Conference with a record of 8-7-2 through 17 games. After a rough 2023-24 campaign which saw them finish fifth-last in the entire WHL.
With a full WHL season under his belt, the Edmonton Oil Kings will rely on Parker Alcos quite a bit this season and he'll play an even bigger role as the year goes on. By wanting to grow the offensive side of his game, it'll open up opportunities for him and could eventually see some more time on the team's powerplay.
The D+1 (season after being drafted) year is always a big one for the development of a player and for Parker Alcos, he'll be looking to show the Vancouver Canucks that they made the right decision in drafting him and that he could be an option down the road for them. Even if it's just in the AHL with Abbotsford to start before potentially working his way into a bottom-pairing shutdown role in Vancouver.
