Blood clotting problems kept the Canucks' top goalscorer Brock Boeser away from the ice at the moment when they could've used him the most. The news broke about 24 hours before things started, and the team's chances of getting to the next round drastically decreased. The Canucks' number 6 had been dominant in his first 12 post-season games scoring seven goals and 12 points.
It was just revealed that blood clotting wasn't the only issue that Boeser had been dealing with. It had been kept quiet, but Brock blocked a shot during game three of the first-round series against the Predators and broke a finger. Ahead of game four, he left practice midway through, but he was ultimately able to play game four and ended up leading the team through a comeback, during which he scored a hat trick.
A broken finger isn't the end of the world, but to know that he had to deal with that on top of everything and perform at his usual level is truly impressive.
Brock Boeser updated the team on his status during the exit interviews. Boeser confirmed that his blood clotting problems wouldn't affect his off-season training. At this point, there are no indications that he won't be ready for training camp.
It wasn't enjoyable for Boeser to sit in the most crucial game of the season after he had a breakout season, registering 40 goals and 73 points. Boeser also adressed his breakout and stated that it was all about his mentality; now that he knows how to get it done, he will do it.
