The Vancouver Canucks are hoping to see top prospect Tom Willander play NHL games before the end of the 2024-25 season, but the defenseman's debut will have to wait a little longer after another Boston University victory.
Vancouver Canucks and Tom Willander talking contract
As the 2024-25 season nears an end for both the NHL and NCAA, all signs point to the Canucks bringing top prospect Tom Willander into the fold before season's end.
Doing so would mean the team burns a year off Willander's ELC, and the player would get his signing bonus a few months early.
I'm told negotiations between the Canucks and top defensive prospect Tom Willander are ramping up
Appears the most likely outcome, time permitting, is Willander signs and sees NHL action down the stretch to cash his signing bonus and have a year burned off of his ELC
Willander and the Terriers faced off against Ohio State on Thursday in Regionals, absolutely dominated in Toledo winning by a score of 8-3.
While Vancouver fans might have liked to see a different result and sign Willander as soon as possible, it also gives him an opportunity to keep developing in important games.
The NCAA Championship game will be played on April 12, so even if BU makes it all the way to the finals, Willander could still sign for the final two Canucks games of the season.
