In what was bit a reckless play, Vancouver Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes was assessed a 5-minute major penalty and received a game-misconduct for hitting Ottawa Senators Forward Josh Norris from behind.

Just over half way through the first period where the Vancouver Canucks are kicking off their road trip with the Ottawa Senators, Quinn Hughes gave a crosscheck to Josh Norris from behind resulting in him staying down on the ice.

Although questionable, and definitely a penalty, fans may be confused why Hughes was even ejected for the hit.

Even though it did not appear to be a play to intentionally injure Norris, the nature of him suffering an injury resulted in his Hughes' game misconduct.

But, it is still up to the officials discretion to conclude that the hit warranted a misconduct, and even after a video review, they stuck to their guns.

Even though Norris appeared to be injured on the hit, (which got Hughes ejected), he was able to "miraculously" come back for the Senators 5-minute man advantage...

Fortunately, the Vancouver Canucks PK was able to back up their captain and managed to kill of the powerplay for a misconduct that was not warranted.

It is a clear loss to have your best player and captain out of the game when you are trying and set the momentum for a big road trip.

The good news is that he will almost be guaranteed to not face any supplemental discipline.

Hughes has 19 points in 18 games this season.
