Season In Doubt? Canucks Face Major Setback with Unfortunate Update on Elias Pettersson's Injury

The Vancouver Canucks seem to not be able to catch a break this year as the injury riddled season claims two more victims in Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander.

In the highly anticipated reunion with J.T. Miller and the New York Rangers on Saturday, amid the drama that turned the 2025 Canucks season into a soap opera, the attitude for the game was overshadowed by star forward Elias Pettersson being forced to leave the game with an apparent upper body injury.

During the late stages of the 2nd period in Madison square Garden, Elias Pettersson was seen in loads of discomfort on a seemingly harmless play where he was waived out of the faceoff circle by the referee.

Pettersson immediately was seen heading down the tunnel to the dressing room.
He returned for a few shifts, but ultimately left the game for good in the third period.
Head Coach Rick Tocchet was clearly in disbelief that another one of his stars has gone down with an injury.
«Is anything else going to happen,» Tocchet told reporters in New York post-game of what he'd said to assistant coach Adam Foote after the team's medical staff determined Pettersson wouldn't be able to finish the game.

When asked by the media about Pettersson's status for their next matchup on Monday where they face the New Jersey Devils, he provided some pretty unfortunate but vague news.
«If you had to ask me now it would probably be doubtful,» he said about the status of Pettersson and Nils Höglander.

A month ago, this news would not have been to bad as Pettersson was playing some of the worst hockey of his career.
But now, it comes as a major blow as he is in the midst of one of the hottest stretches of the season.
With only a handful of games left, the need him in the lineup if they are going to have any chance at making a push to secure the final wildcard spot int he West.
