After the Vancouver Canucks dropped the last game of their road trip to the Minnesota Wild in overtime on Tuesday, Elias Pettersson decided to own up and put the blame on himself for some mistakes.
Even in the short period of time since the Vancouver Canucks media has taken a step back form being all over Elias Pettersson for underperforming and making too much money, he has really stepped up and shown his qualities as a leader.
It has been even more apparent recently with the absence of star forward and leader J.T. Miller.
In the 7 games where Miller has been on the sidelines taking care of himself, Pettersson has been flourishing on the ice.
On their recently concluded road trip, Pettersson has scored 1 goal, 9 assists (6 primary for 10 points in 6 games.
Elias Pettersson Owns Up to Mistakes in Overtime Loss Against the Minnesota Wild
Even though the Swedish superstar played a great game, recording two assists in the overtime loss to the Wild, he spoke to the media after the game to own up to his defensive mistakes.
«We liked our effort, I think we did enough to win, but a few mistakes by our line and me in the D-zone, we gave up the lead,» explained Pettersson.
«We have a 2-1 lead [on] their goal, I missed a block and when I missed my block I screened Lankinen to even see the puck. Just small details.»
The sequence he is referring to coming late in the third period when play he's Pettersson failed to clear the puck, which led to Wild d-man Jacob Middleton tying the game.
