Vancouver Canucks Announce Unfortunate Roster Transaction with Forward Max Sasson
The Vancouver Canucks have announced a roster move with new fan favorite forward Max Sasson.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today, that after their 6-game road trip, they have decided to send down forward Max Sasson back to the AHL Abbotsford Canucks.
Sasson has made a clear impact on Rick Tocchet as he has skated in five games with the Canucks on their recently concluded road trip.
This also including him securing his first ever NHL point in his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators. Sasson followed that up with another assist, but went pointless over his next three games to close out the road trip.
We have seen the Canucks call-up and send-down players over and over again as a strategy to accrue extra cap space.
Because today is an off day for both the Vancouver Canucks and the Abbotsford Canucks, there is a very good chance that they are "assigning" Sasson to the AHL as purely a paper transaction.
Fans will remember earlier in the year when the Canucks would assign Arshdeep Bains and Aatu Räty to Abbotsford on nearly every day off only to recall them to the NHL the next day. This is all done with an eye on accruing cap space so that the Canucks can be more flexible at the Trade Deadline Another real possibility is that the Canucks are clearing up a roster spot for the return of J.T. Miller, who missed the last 7-games since GM Patrik Allvin announced Miller would be taking a leave of absence from the team.
Whatever the case may be, Sasson showed a lot of potential in his first stint with the Vancouver Canucks, especially as an undrafted free-agent.
Sasson plays the sort of game that Rick Tocchet loves to see out of his players.
He's a guy [Sasson] who's really trended as a really good prospect for us. The last couple of years he's really worked on his game. Hard-working guy, There's an opportunity here for him and we're really excited for him." Tocchet said.
