Pair of Vancouver Canucks Named to Rosters for 2025 4 Nations Face-Off
Finland and Sweden released their rosters for the 4 Nations Face-Off on Wednesday afternoon, with a pair of Vancouver Canucks set to participate.
If you're a fan of best-on-best international hockey, then you're likely having a pretty good Wednesday as the rosters for each of the participating teams at the 4 Nations Face-Off were revealed.
The first nation to have their roster revealed was Finland, who at the last best-on-best international event - 2016 World Cup of Hockey - finished last in their group with three losses in three games.
A lot has changed for these four teams in the last eight years, but for Finland, they've gotten a lot more dynamic and skilled on forward, while their defensive group might be the weakest among the four nations by a mile.
Vancouver Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen was named to Finland's roster on Wednesday, along with
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen of the Buffalo Sabres, with previously-announced
Juuse Saros rounding out the trio between the pipes.
Lankinen, 29, has represented Finland just once in his hockey career, that came at the 2019 IIHF World Championship where he won the gold medal after posting a 7-1 record in eight games, along with a 1.50 goals against average, a .942 save percentage and two shutouts.
On forward, they've got plenty of guys who are capable of putting the puck in the back of the net, which will bode well for the play-making Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks, who was among those named to the roster on Wednesday.
Much like the majority of players on his team, this will be Elias Pettersson's debut on the best-on-best stage, however he's represented Tre Kronor several times, including at the 2018 and 2019 IIHF World Championships.
The 2025 4 Nations Face-Off is set to get underway on February 12th with Canada taking on Sweden, before Finland and the United States do battle one night later.
