Everybody was certain the Blue Jackets had landed the jackpot when they selected the Port Moody, BC native Kent Johnson with the 5th overall pick in 2021.

After a promising debut season during which he collected 40 points through 79 games, things went sideways for the young man ever since the Jackets made their multitude of coaching changes. Johnson's had a tough time in the NHL this season, he managed 16 points in 42 games at the game's top level. He put up 15 in 10 down in the AHL as well.

Now he'll have to reset everything and come back stronger next year since the Jackets just announced that Johnson will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder surgery:

Johnson is expected to have left shoulder surgery later this week and will miss the rest of the season.

Already having a tough season, the young man will have to wait until next year to build himself back up again. He'll be a restricted free agent at the end of this season.

Johnson will try and prove that he deserved to be picked 5th overall. Picked behind Owen Power, Matty Beniers, Mason MacTavish and Luke Hughes, he still hasn't shown that he can play at that level.
