LATEST | Flyers' GM confirms he's listening to trade offers on number one goaltender
The Philadelphia Flyers could look a little bit different next season as their new management group tries to put their own fingerprints on the roster.
During a recent radio interview, Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere said that he will listen to trade offers on number one goaltender Carter Hart, although he still believes the 24-year-old is their netminder of the future.
"I would say, most likely, Carter is going to be our goalie of the future," Briere said.. "Now I'm not in a position to turn down anything. If there's teams calling about him we have to listen, that's my job as a general manager. I have to listen, I have to do what's best for the team and the organization."
The Sherwood Park (Alberta) native had a bit of a bounce back year in 2022-23 where he sported a 22-23-10 record along with a 2.94 GAA, .907 save percentage and two shutouts.
Next season will mark the final year of Hart's three-year contract that comes with an AAV of $3.979 million. He's set to become a restricted free agent next summer, but will have arbitration rights.
There will be plenty of teams lining up to acquire Hart's services given his age, ability and cap hit. Despite playing parts of five NHL seasons already, goaltenders take longer to develop, so the best years of Hart's career are still to come and that's very intriguing for teams looking for a starting netminder.
