LATEST | Ovechkin announces why he left the Capitals and it's heartbreaking
Alexander Ovechkin announced earlier yesterday that he'd be taking some time away from his team and the NHL to attend to a family matter.
Today, through his Instagram account, Ovy announced the passing of Mikhail Ovechkin, his father.
"Today I lost my father ... I thank everyone for the support but please be understanding and do not disturb my family in this difficult time for us!
Thank you"
We send the Ovechkin family our deepest condolences in this difficult time. We hope that he can honor his father and write a new chapter in history and beat Gretzky's longstanding record.
