The Wild will be facing off with the dangerous Carolina Hurricanes and Michael Russo of The Athletic has just confirmed that Alex Goligoski would take Matt Dumba's place in the line-up. The latter is not injured and will sit for ''hockey reasons''. The Wild's coach Dean Evason has already made a statement on the subject:
Matt Dumba will be an unrestricted free agent by the end of the season and he's been linked already to many different teams on the trade market. The Canucks were reportedly one team that's been heavily linked to the Wild, especially since Brock Boeser was put on the trade block.
Boeser is a Minnesota native and everybody is well aware that the Wild are looking to add to their forward group. Though it's hard for them to make a move that requires them take on more money because of the most recent cap hit they've suffered with the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buy-outs. The fact that they've extended young forward Matt Boldy to a $7M AAV deal kicking off next year isn't helping as well. Perhaps if the Canucks opened up on the possibility to retain part of Boeser's salary it would help to please both sides?
Should the Canucks management consider retaining the salary on Boeser's contract for the 2 years that remain on his contract?
Matt Dumba is mainly known for his versatile play. A right-handed defenseman who combines offensive skills and strong physical abilities. He's got a cannon of a shot and is not afraid to make a spectacular play, whether it's a deke or a big open-ice hit.
