Rod Brind'Amour gave a strong response to reporters on Monday morning regarding the Jalen Chatfield incident with Washington Capitals forward Connor McMichael last week.

Last Wednesday when the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals met for the third of four meetings this season, there was an incident involving former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Jalen Chatfield that led to plenty of speculation on whether or not he should be suspended.
Chatfield dropped the mitts with Connor McMichael and towards the end of the fight, swung him over his legs and onto the ice, with both players being handed a five-minute major for fighting and a ten-minute misconduct.

Rod Brind'Amour gives strong response when asked if any retribution will be coming

The Hurricanes and Capitals combined for 142 penalty minutes and the next day, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety opted not to give Jalen Chatfield any supplemental discipline
On Monday, three days ahead of their rematch with Washington, Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour was asked about the potential for retribution on Thursday.
Brind'Amour blamed the media for making drama out of the Chatfield-McMichael fight, adding that it's not a fair characterization of Jalen Chatfield and that's what bothers him the most about this situation.
"The media was the one who made drama out of it and they're morons, typically." Brind'Amour said according to Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News.

He added, "If you're going to say what happened at the end was anything more than what I've seen a thousand times before, you don't know what you're talking about. Go look at the game exactly before. The Boston-Detroit game. Two really good heavyweights going at it and watch how that fight ends. It's a takedown, I'm sorry. Quit making something out of what isn't, because that's not a fair characterization of our player and that's what bothers me on the whole thing. Do your homework."
While Rod Brind'Amour understandably might not agree that there should be any retribution, it certainly feels like something could happen on Thursday night in Washington and it'll be up to the players to police the situation, whether that be Tom Wilson or Dylan McIlrath, for example.
