MAJOR | NHL provides massive update in Coyotes' relocation
With the Atlanta Thrashers relocating to Winnipeg in 2011, the Vegas Golden Knights debuting in 2017, and the Seattle Kraken debuting in 2021, the NHL has seen no shortage of expansion and relocation in recent years. The Arizonaformerly PhoenixCoyotes have been the talk of the town in terms of relocation rumours as of late, and their plans to remain within Arizona for the extended future appear extremely unclear.
They recently were demoted to Mullett Arena, the home rink of the NCAA's Sun Devils, which hosts significantly fewer fans than any other NHL arena. While this was never seen as a long-term solution, their arena situation also appears very uncertain for the foreseeable future.
However, Bill Daly was asked if the NHL would consider having the Coyotes play elsewhere (outside of Arizona) for 2024-25:
Team owner Alex Meruelo has a land auction on the line for June, though it doesn't seem like the outcome will affect the team's relocation situation.
