While there is a lot of old school mentality remaining in the NHL, there's nobody who takes it as far as New York Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello.

That's resulted in some controversy after the newest member of the Isles, Anthony Duclair, posted an Instagram story revealing his newly chopped off dreadlocks, as per the New York Islanders' -or more accurately, Lou Lamoriello's- team policy.

While the policy has long been in place with Lamoriello led teams, some members of the media are speaking out against the practice, calling the 81 year old "out of touch".

The Islanders abide by a strict short hair and clean shaven policy (until playoffs) and it's not a new element to teams led by Lamoriello.

TSN's Gord Miller also criticized the rule, and said in this case it borders on culturally insensitive.

If he didn't cut his hair, it's possible Duclair could have been facing a suspension from the team.

The 28 year old signed a 4 year contract with the Islanders this offseason which pays him $3.5 million per year.
