Mikko Rantanen is on the move for the second time this season and will be returning to the Western Conference and Central Division with the Dallas Stars.
In late January, after contract negotiations went south, the Colorado Avalanche
decided to trade Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes, while landing
Martin Necas in return.
Since being acquired by Carolina, the Hurricanes and Rantanen's camp have been talking about a contract extension, but nothing was able to materialize over the last week and now, the Finnish forward is being traded, once again.
Dallas Stars acquire Mikko Rantanen, signs him to long-term extension
According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, Mikko Rantanen is on his way to the Dallas Stars after agreeing to terms on an eight year contract extension worth $96 million - which just happens to be his jersey number.
"Mikko Rantanen and the Dallas Stars are closing in on an extension
8 years, $12M AAV. Would get the deal done." Friedman said.
"Mikko Rantanen is reportedly being traded to the @DallasStars and closing in on an 8-year contract extension." NHL Network said.
By acquiring Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes, there's no doubt that it makes the Dallas Stars likely the top contender for the Stanley Cup this season and are poised to make a deep run this spring in hopes of their first Finals appearance since 2020.
