As the Colorado Avalanche faced off against the Columbus blue Jackets for the second game of the regular season, they now are facing backlash from the hockey community as they decided to forgo not to honor the passing of Johnny Gaudreau as they faced his team.

This offseason, the hockey community has been in extreme mourning as we saw one of the biggest MNHL star Johnny Gaudreau lose his life, along with his brother when he was struck by a drunk driver a day before his sisters wedding while in their home town of New Jersey. As a part of this season, all teams have been wearing decals and putting on tributes in their games to honor the passing of the two Gaudreau Brothers, along with a 13-second moment of silence.

As the Avalanche prepared to play against the Blue Jackets, Johnny Gaudreau's team for the last 2 seasons. Instead, they put on a ceremony for superstar Nathan Mackinnon for winning the Hart Memorial Trophy in 2023-2024, but did not partake in honoring a giving a tribute to the Gaudreau brothers, even forgoing the 13-second moment of silence, and fans are livid.

The Avs not doing a moment of silence for the Gaudreau brothers before the game is absolutely unacceptable- I understand celebrating Nate but having that moment with Columbus in town is just rude

It is unclear why the Avs decided not to tribute or hold any presentation for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, but it seems pretty outrages that they wouldn't considering they were playing the Blue Jackets.

Do you think the backlash is warranted for fans to be upset with the Colorado Avalanche?
