When the Canucks acquired Casey DeSmith via trade, it became clear to everyone that Spencer Martin would be sent down to the AHL via waivers. The experience he had already cumulated and his contract made him an interesting depth option for teams in need, and that's precisely how the Canucks ended up losing him.

MARTIN OFF TO COLUMBUS VIA WAIVERS

Martin was confided the starter's net tonight as the Blue Jackets played the Flames, and he delivered an exceptional performance. A performance so good the NHL's Public Relations account felt the need to acknowledge it:

''* Spencer Martin made 36 saves to guide the Blue Jackets to victory. His total tied Mathieu Garon (36 on Oct. 10, 2009) and Elvis Merzlikins (36 on Dec. 31, 2019) for the second most by a goaltender in their first career win with the franchise one shy of Curtis McElhinney's mark on Oct. 20, 2013 (37).''

It was Martin's second start this season, and he was phenomenal during that game. From there, we can only wish him the best of luck with his new team. Hopefully, his successes continue from there.
