Bergevin's name has circulated in the two years since whenever a General Manager position opens up in the National Hockey League, but now the former Canucks is reportedly in consideration to join a new team.
According to Dennis Berstein of The Fourth Period, Bergevin is in consideration for the vacant General Manager job with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets fired Jarmo Kekalainen earlier this year after more than a decade with the organization.
Bergevin, 58, had some success as a General Manager with the Montreal Canadiens, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021 and Eastern Conference Final in 2014. Just over four months after the Canadiens went to the Stanley Cup Final, the team fired Bergevin and replaced him with Kent Hughes.
The Montreal native spent nine games with the Vancouver Canucks during the 2003-04 season after being traded to them by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In those nine games, he put up two assists and two penalty minutes. After the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he appeared in three games with Vancouver, Bergevin announced his retirement from professional hockey.
