Carolina Hurricanes' Trade Offer for Brock Boeser is Made Public After Leak
The Carolina Hurricanes' trade offer to the Vancouver Canucks for pending unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser has been revealed.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik decided
not to trade Brock Boeser on Friday at the deadline as he said he didn't receive any offers that would benefit the organization.
One day later,
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Vancouver Canucks were seeking a first-round pick, nothing less, in exchange for Brock Boeser, with the pending UFA sticking around for the remainder of the season.
Carolina Hurricanes' offer for Brock Boeser has been revealed
On deadline day,
Rick Dhaliwal reported that one team to keep an eye on for Brock Boeser was the Carolina Hurricanes, especially after they traded
Mikko Rantanen to the Dallas Stars and were searching for a scoring winger.
Ultimately, nothing happened on that front, but we now know what the trade offer was that the Carolina Hurricanes submitted to Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks.
According to Patrick Johnston of
The Province, the Carolina Hurricanes offered former third overall pick
Jesperi Kotkaniemi and a first-round pick in exchange for Brock Boser.
With the Vancouver Canucks in need of center depth, Kotkaniemi could've came in right away to play a third line role and getting that first-round pick as well was exactly what Patrik Allvin wanted, but there was a catch.
The Hurricanes not only wanted Brock Boeser in return, they were also seeking one of Vancouver's prospects, who wasn't named, as well, Johnston said.
"The hang up it would seem may have come down to a prospect. Carolina was after one of Vancouver's, even though Canucks have a mountain of their own. And whoever it was, it seems like Vancouver didn't want to part with him." Johnston said.
If it was one of Vancouver's top-five prospects such as
Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Tom Willander or
Elias Pettersson, for example, that the Hurricanes were after, then it's completely understandable as to why Patrik Allvin would turn down the offer.
On the other hand, if it was someone else other than those three mentioned above, it's unclear why Patrik Allvin would turn that deal down, especially as he said he wanted a first-round pick and nothing less.
For now, Brock Boeser remains a Vancouver Canuck and will play a big role in helping the team down the stretch as they look to continue their push for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
