There were rumblings late last night that suggested Guentzel and the Bolts had come to an agreement, but it was only officialized this morning. The Bolts took Guentzel off the market with a hefty $63M offer:
Guentzel, a seasoned veteran who's about to hit 30, has a knack for scoring clutch goals. Many believed that his offensive production mainly came from playing alongside Sidney Crosby, but he proved everyone wrong during his days with Hurricanes. Guentzel then registered 8 goals and 25 points in 17 regular season games.
The Canucks were prepare to make Guentzel one of their highest paid players reportedly working around to idea of offering an annual $9.5M. Given that Guentzel will be under contract for the up until the time he turns 36, the Lightning may have saved the Canucks from themselves, time will tell.
