Chris Tanev has reportedly inked a new contract with the Maple Leafs
Over the weekend, former Vancouver Canucks defenceman Chris Tanev was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs and it appears that he's close to putting pen to paper on a contract with them.
According to Kevin Weekes of ESPN, once the contract is finalized, Tanev will be earning nearly $5 million per season and as of Monday morning, the term on his deal is unknown.
"@MapleLeafs and D Tanev sounds like new Contract comes in around $5M AAV from what I'm told for the hometown guy. #LeafsForever #HockeyX" Weekes said.
Tanev, 34, spent time with the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars during the 2023-24 campaign where he put up 19 points (two goals, 17 assists), 24 penalty minutes and a plus-22. The Toronto native went on to add two assists in 19 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
Canucks fans were hoping that Tanev would be returning to Vancouver, where he played the first ten seasons of his National Hockey League career, but it looks like Patrik Allvin and the management group will have to shift their attention elsewhere.
