The Vancouver Canucks have two preseason games left on the schedule before they kick off their 2023-24 campaign on October 11th against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.

Vancouver has been without the services of Russian forward Ilya Mikheyev since January due to an ACL injury he suffered which require surgery. On Sunday, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet gave an update on Mikheyev's status and said that while he's progressing, he's not ready for game action.

Tocchet went on to add that it's unclear at this time if Mikheyev will be able to play in the season opener next Wednesday in Edmonton, but will be in practices with the team over the next week.

"He's more allowed in contact right now," Tocchet said. "So we are just kind of giving him a bit of that right now."

He added, "Doctors don't want to commit to opening night. We got a couple more practices left... and he will be in those practices."

The 28-year-old has three years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $4.75 million and a modified no-trade clause that comes with a 12-team no-trade list. During his first season with the Canucks, Mikheyev managed to put up 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) in 46 games.
