BREAKING | Last-minute announcement regarding Elias Pettersson and his development
Vancouver Canucks prospect Elias Pettersson has been in a challenging situation with his Swedish Hockey League club Orebro HK.
Pettersson has only appeared in four games for the men's team in the SHL, but with limited minutes, which won't help his development. To aid with his development this season, Orebro HK has decided to loan him to Vasteras IK in Hockey Allsvenskan, the second division in Sweden.
Note: the following quote was translated from Swedish.
"We have for some time, in consultation with Vancouver, tried to find a solution for Elias to get playing time in a senior environment. Now we have found a solution where Elias is loaned to Vasteras, where he gets the opportunity." Orebro HK said in a statement.
Playing in the Hockey Allsvenskan will help Pettersson immensely, with more minutes and a more significant role allowing him to develop on both sides of the puck. Pettersson will likely also play for Sweden on home ice at the 2024 IIHF World Hockey Championship and will have a considerable role in trying to help his country win their first gold medal at the tournament since 2012.
Do you think this is an intelligent move for Pettersson's development, or would you instead him stick with an SHL team and try to earn minutes in a top league? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
