Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers set to achieve major career milestone against the Philadelphia Flyers
Vancouver Canucks rangy defenseman Tyler Myers is set to achieve a major career milestone by playing in his 1,000 career NHL game when the team faces off against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday (October 19th).
Myers has begun his 16th NHL season this year and 6th with the Vancouver Canucks and now will become only the leagues 400th player to reach 1,000 career NHL games in their 107 years of history.
Tyler Myers looks back at his wonderful career so far
«I still remember the first time I saw him skate and I was really impressed with a 6-foot-8 kid who had feet like that,» said Patrick, who's now head coach of the WHL's Victoria Royals. «For 19 years old, it was really impressive.
«You never know how careers are going to turn out. You never know what's going to happen. But the time we had him in Buffalo, I really felt that he could have a great career and this is what we hoped for with him. He was someone who could play a two-way game and his feet and his reach were really impressive.- Myers
Tyler Myers also spoke about how he loves Vancouver, and could have went somewhere else over the offseason but decided that he wanted to stay due to the path the team is on.
Myers could have tested free agency over the summer, but instead signed a three-year deal with a cap hit of $3 million per season to return to Vancouver. He said he likes how the Canucks are trending, said he likes the culture of hard work and communication spearheaded by head coach Rick Tocchet and assistant Adam Foote.
Tyler Myers highlighted that he is proud of being able to play this long in the league where he is able to keep up with the growing demands of the NHL and the defense position due to how fast and skilled the game as gotten.
«To get to 1,000 games you have be doing something. And there's more demand on that position than ever before because of the speed of the game now and the way the rules have evolved. You are very vulnerable with the speed forwards can generate. It's only gotten harder. And for him to keep being a really important player on every team he's been on says it all right there.»
Congratulations!!!
