Vancouver Canucks fans woke up to a bit of a scare this morning when it was announced that goaltender Arturs Silovs was dealing with knee ligament inflammation. At the time, not much was known about Silovs' status, especially after he wasn't named to Latvia's roster for the Final Olympic Qualifying tournament in Riga.
After the news came out, Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali spoke with Latvia's General Manager Rudolfs Kalvitis to get a bit more information on Silovs' injury and how he's doing.
Kalvitis told Rick Dhaliwal that after evaluation, it was determined that Arturs Silovs was not at 100 percent health because of inflammation in his knee, which we knew this morning. However, Kaltivis added that they didn't want to push Silovs any further, hence why he was left off of Latvia's roster, but he should be good to go for Vancouver's training camp next month.
This is great news for the Canucks because this morning, it felt like they could have been dealing with another injury issue that would linger into training camp, but it appears Silovs will be good to go when Vancouver takes to the ice on September 19th in Penticton, BC.
As of now, given Thatcher Demko's status, Arturs Silovs is poised to be the Canucks' starting goaltender, like he was for the majority of their run in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, it'll be interesting to see if Patrik Allvin is still searching the goaltending market for insurance, potentially sign someone like Kevin Lankinen, who they've been linked to since last week.
