Vancouver has been at home, Rogers Arena, for eight games so far this season and while their record hasn't been great, fans have still been showing up, but not as much as one would think.
There's no question the Vancouver Canucks have one of the most passionate fan bases in the entire National Hockey League and they support their team no matter what, but at some of those eight home games this year, it's been noticeable that there's been quite a few empty seats.
TSN reporter Farhan Lalji was a guest on Donnie & Dhali on Friday where he spoke about the empty seats and shared an interesting tidbit when it came to the team's suites.
Lalji said that some people who bought suites to Vancouver Canucks games this season got moved to better locations where suites were empty. While Lalji didn't expand much on that, it's safe to say that the suites those fans were moved to were closer to the neutral zone allowing for it to look more full.
While there's probably multiple factors at play here as to why there's plenty of empty seats at Rogers Arena this season, a big reason is likely due to ticket prices.
For tomorrow night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks, Ticketmaster has a ton of tickets available both from the Vancouver Canucks and re-sale. However, prices are quite high. The lowest price for a ticket, after fees and taxes, is $121 CAD, which will have you sitting in section 417, row 1 - one of the last rows at Rogers Arena's upper bowl.
As for the cheapest ticket in the lower bowl, $174 CAD (Section 122, Row 24). And those are just starting prices for each bowl. Ticket prices vary depending on the bowl, section and row, but the most expensive ticket will end up costing you close to $450 CAD.
While it might not be as expensive as other arenas in the NHL, it's still quite pricey and not very affordable for some, which is why there's been empty seats this season. Of course, the Canucks' 2-3-3 home record this season also doesn't help.
