Insider says Canucks reportedly looking for an upgrade for their top-four, and one could be on its way
An insider says that the Vancouver Canucks reportedly looking for an upgrade for their top-four defensive group.
The Vancouver Canucks have played quite well in their last three games and currently sit fifth in the Pacific Division with a record of 3-1-2 through their first six contests.
While Patrik Allvin and the Canucks' front office may be content with their roster for the time being, that doesn't mean he isn't at least looking for opportunities to upgrade at certain positions before the National Hockey League's trade deadline on March 7th.
In a recent article on The Athletic, Canucks reporter Thomas Drance mentions that the team could look for an upgrade to their top-four defensive group, but it won't be easy.
"Brännström's emergence, however, doesn't mean that the club isn't intent on turning over every rock in search of additional defensive help, while a potential top-four upgrade is the Canucks' primary target down the line." Drance said.
Drance later went on to add, "And make no mistake, Canucks brass have absolutely identified the top four as an area to target for external improvement on the trade market over the balance of the season."
The Canucks aren't the only team looking for defensive help right now, as Frank Seravalli is reporting that the Montreal Canadiens and Utah Hockey Club are both in the market to add a defenceman. Trades at this time of year are hard to come by though and the price to add a top-four defenceman could be quite a lot right now.
It's still very early and teams are trying to figure out their identity right now and whether or not they'll be in the mix for a playoff spot later in the season. Some potential options for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks to consider on the blue line are Cam Fowler (Anaheim Ducks), Ivan Provorov (Columbus Blue Jackets) and possibly, if the Canadiens are willing to part with him closer to the deadline, David Savard.
