The Vancouver Canucks have made some changes to their coaching staff this summer as Mike Yeo left the organization to become an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators. Yeo was replaced by skills coach Yogi Svejkovsky.
In the American Hockey League, the Canucks' affiliate in Abbotsford also saw a big change behind the bench, with Jeremy Colliton leaving and being replaced by former Vancouver centerman Manny Malhotra.
While they may not be behind the bench for the Canucks next season, Henrik and Daniel Sedin will see their roles for the organization enhanced and will be able to help out more with the roster, especially at practices.
Earlier this week, Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford was a guest on The Bob McCown Podcast and said that we're going to see the Sedin twins more involved next season and will be helping with the team's powerplay.
Having the Sedin twins more involved and helping with the Canucks' powerplay is going to be massively beneficial for the organization next season. Henrik and Daniel had 61 and 138 powerplay goals, respectively, throughout their careers in the National Hockey League.
In the second half of the 2023-24 campaign and even in Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Canucks' powerplay was not good. In the post-season, Canucks had five goals on 36 attempts (13.9%) which is not good enough if they want to make a deep run.
With the offensive weapons the Canucks have in their lineup including Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser and the newly signed Jake DeBrusk, Vancouver's powerplay should be in the top-ten in the National Hockey League during the 2024-25 regular season. There's no doubt that Henrik and Daniel Sedin will do everything in their power to ensure that happens.
