Kevin Lankinen records 4th shutout of career to solidify himself as the Canucks starting goalie
Since the start of Vancouver Canucks training camp, it has been a hard fought battle between goalies Arturs Silovs and Kevin Lankinen to see who will start, but after tonights shutout, there is no question.
In tonight's game (October 19th) against the Philadelphia Flyers, head coach Rick Tocchet decided to go back to Kevin Lankinen for the 2nd consecutive game after he secured the win on Tuesday against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
Even with that great performance, there still was no guarantee that Lankinen would be the go to guy. Artur Silovs had a great playoff and end of the year run for the Canucks last season, but that has all changed.
Lankinen proved to everyone that they need to trust him with the starting position as he recorded his 4th career shutout, making 26 saves on 26 shots.
If that was not enough evidence, in his 3 starts for the Canucks this season, he has made 81 saves on 85 shots, has an unbelievable .953 save percentage, and a 3.88 goals saved above expected.
Head Coach Rick Tocchet comments on Lankinen's shutout
«Oh yeah, we have good goaltending here and it's still early, but he's put 3 straight good games together He looked big in his net. He looked really steady."
