The Vancouver Canucks wrapped up their three-game California road trip on Thursday night in the 'City of Angels' as they took on the Los Angeles Kings. Coming into the game, the Canucks had won their previous two on the road trip and were looking for a clean sweep of California.
During the first period however, things went south after a dirty, inexcusable hit from Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot on Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.
Boeser received a short pass from Quinn Hughes in the neutral zone when Tanner Jeannot comes in, leaning with his shoulder, which makes contact with the head of Brock Boeser. The Canucks forward fell to the ice and headed back to the locker room. When the second period began, Boeser didn't return to the Canucks bench and it was announced that he would not be back during the game.
The officials handed Tanner Jeannot a match penalty for an illegal check to the head. Any match penalty is automatically subject to review by the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety.
As expected, on Friday morning, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced that Tanner Jeannot has been summoned for a hearing for last night's hit on Brock Boeser. Given that it's a phone hearing, as reported by David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the maximum number of games he'll likely be suspended for is five, but we won't know how many he'll be given until later on today.
Tanner Jeannot has never been suspended during his National Hockey League career, so because he's not a repeat offender, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Department of Player Safety go easy on him, especially with how inconsistent they've been over the years.
Stay tuned to Canucks Daily on Friday for more once the NHL's Department of Player Safety makes their decision on a suspension for Tanner Jeannot.
