LATEST | Nils Hoglander and the Canucks receiving praises for his breakout
Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander has had an impressive season thus far and has been given plenty of opportunities to play a bigger role in 2023-24 by head coach Rick Tocchet.
So far this season, Hoglander has appeared in 66 games where he has new career-highs in goals and points. In those 66 games, Hoglander has put up 31 points (20 goals, 11 assists), 45 penalty minutes and is a plus-17. All 20 of Hoglander's goals have come at 5-on-5, which is good for tenth in the National Hockey League in that category.
In an article on The Athletic this week, Hoglander was highlighted as one of the league's top-ten under-the-radar breakout players for the 2023-24 season.
"He's come back to the NHL this season as a completely transformed player. Every one of Hoglander's 20 goals has come at even strength, making him one of the top five-on-five goal scorers in the league. It's even more impressive when you factor in that he was mostly restricted to a fourth-line role until the All-Star break." Harman Dayal of The Athletic said.
Hoglander has been able to earn the trust of Rick Tocchet who eventually gave him a shot in the team's top-six forward group alongside his countryman, Elias Pettersson and ever since, it's been a great fit.
The Gargns, Sweden native is also one of the best bargains in the league this season too. Hoglander, who's scored 20 goals so far this season as mentioned, is only making $1.1 million this season and has provided incredible value for the Canucks.
