Vancouver's Rogers Arena Reportedly In The Mix to Host Upcoming International Best-on-Best Tournament

Rogers Arena has hosted a number of international events in the past and it appears that another could be heading to Vancouver in the coming years.
Earlier this week, the National Hockey League and the Players Association
announced the return of the World Cup of Hockey starting in 2028 and that they'll be taking bids from cities in North America and Europe that are interested in hosting the event.
Vancouver reportedly interested in hosting game at 2028 World Cup of Hockey
This morning, Sportsnet Elliotte Friedman shared in
the latest 32 Thoughts podcast that some cities have already shown interest as potential hosts for the World Cup of Hockey in 2028.
Those cities are Edmonton (Rogers Place), Seattle (Climate Pledge Arena) and Vancouver (Rogers Arena).
Friedman added that the National Hockey League wants some games in the tournament to be played in Europe, which would make it difficult to have North American hosts on the West Coast.
"Elliotte reporting Vancouver, Seattle and Edmonton are all interested in hosting World Cup games in 2028.
He mentions they want some games in Europe as well so he's not sure how they would feel about hosting games on the westcoast and Europe because of travel." @Taj1944 on X said.
Rogers Arena is no stranger to hosting international hockey events, the most notable being the 2010 Winter Olympics which included
Sidney Crosby's famous Golden Goal against the United States.
The National Hockey League is looking forward to having international best-on-best competition return on a consistent basis, starting with the 4 Nations Face-Off, 2026 Winter Olympics, 2028 World Cup of Hockey and so on.
"We are moving forward with the World Cup two years after the Olympics in 2028," Bettman said. "We will be asking for bids on hosting games. We will have a package that's just about done that will be done in the next few weeks and we couldn't be more excited about making a reality Olympics-World Cups-Olympics-World Cups on a regular schedule of the best hockey players in the world representing their countries and we know the full-blown World Cup, of which this (the 4 Nations Face-Off) is simply a sampler, is going to be sensational."
Aside from the host cities, the NHL will need to figure out which eight (or more) nations will be participating in the tournament, if there will be qualifying for the event.
We're still three years away from the return of the World Cup of Hockey, so the NHL has plenty of time to figure things out and most likely, we won't hear any finalized plans on host cities and participating nations until late-2026/early-2027.
