MAJOR | Phil Kessel's future with the Vancouver Canucks confirmed
It appears that there's a significant update on unrestricted free agent forward Phil Kessel and the Vancouver Canucks.
In a post on X, TSN's Chris Johnston shared that Phil Kessel is on track to sign a contract with the Vancouver Canucks ahead of the 3 p.m. deadline on Friday. In order to be eligible to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Kessel will need to be on the Canucks' reserve list by the deadline tomorrow.
"Not trade related, but it sounds like things remain on track for Phil Kessel to sign with the #canucks before tomorrow's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline.
He needs to be on their reserve list by that time in order to be eligible for the Stanley Cup playoffs." Johnston said.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion joined the Canucks organization in February after the team announced he'd be working out in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford. As the weeks went by, many were wondering if Kessel would end up signing with Vancouver or going elsewhere, but a deal is nearing completion is appears.
Last season, Kessel appeared in 82 games for the Vegas Golden Knights were he put up 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists), 30 penalty minutes and is a minus-seven.
