According Patrick Johnston of 'The Province', after Brock Boeser significantly increased his performance in 2023-2024 from years past, he is assured to be in for a raise, but that number has been a much debated topic. Nonetheless, the term and AAV has become more clear with some recent signings around the NHL.
Brock Boeser has just come off his best offensive season of his career and at just the right time. He will still need to repeat his production this season to get a significant contract, but it seems with how the Canucks are put together, he should be able to surpass the 40-goal marker for the 2nd consecutive season.
Trusted NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported on Tuesday that the Florida Panthers locked up 40-goal scorer Carter Verhaeghe to an 8-year contract extension worth $7M AAV. In total, the contract will pay out $56MM, but $46MM of which coming from bonuses.
With this announcement, Friedman has found that the closest comparable to Verhaeghe is Canucks star Brock Boeser. they both have similar Almost the same goals per game rates, giving the edge to Boeser. In total, Brock has a a better points per game average and is also 2-years younger.
When it is all said an done, the Canucks could be looking at a slight increase in payment, but nothing that is unmanageable. They should settle around the $7.5-$8.0 AAV range on a 8-year extension.
