Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller is set to reach a milestone in the team's 2024-25 season opener tonight against the Calgary Flames.

It's finally here, the day Vancouver Canucks fans have been waiting for all summer - the opening game of the 2024-25 season as they take on the Calgary Flames.

Playing in front of your own fans on opening night is always a special occasion and tonight will be no exception, but for one member of the Vancouver Canucks, it's going to mean a lot more, as he's set to reach a big milestone when the puck is dropped at Rogers Arena.

J.T. Miller is set to play his 800th game in the National Hockey League tonight and it'll be his 365th as a member of the Vancouver Canucks organization.

Miller has seen his game grow to new heights in recent years with the Vancouver Canucks, last season especially as he set new career-highs in goals and points as he helped the team become Pacific Division champions and reach the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The 31-year-old has six years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $8 million per season. If he's able to consistently be a 90-100+ point player, in the coming years, his deal will look like a steal with the NHL's salary cap expected to keep climbing.

Heading into this season, Miller has some big goals for himself this season as he said over the weekend that he wants to become a strong 200-foot player in the National Hockey League this year.

"Listen, I don't want my ceiling to be based on points," he said. "This is what I always try to tell you guys: I may play an even better 200-foot game this year and have 20 less points. That's not a failure to me. If our team's winning games, we might score less, but we might give up a lot less. That's the evolution for me. I want to be a really good 200-foot player in the league, and that doesn't change."

We'll have to wait and see what J.T. Miller has in store for his 800th career game tonight, with puck drop at Rogers Arena set for shortly after 7 pm PT/10 pm ET on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet One.
