The National Hockey League's salary cap is expected to take a significant jump ahead of the 2025-26 season, which comes with some big news for the Vancouver Canucks.

While the focus of everyone in Vancouver is the 2024-25 season and ensuring they get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and potentially go even further, there's some pretty big news that has come out that'll help the team in a big way going forward.

NHL agent Allan Walsh shares major update on league salary cap situation

Everyone around hockey knew that the salary cap was going to rise in a big way next season, but it may take an even larger jump than anyone could have expected.

During a recent appearance on the Steve Dangle podcast, National Hockey League player agent Allan Walsh was asked about the salary cap and what it could look like as we head into the summer with some big free agents set to hit the open market.

Walsh revealed that the salary cap is expected to take a whopping $9 million USD jump from $88 million USD to $97 million USD, although that figure has yet to be confirmed by the National Hockey League or Commissioner Gary Bettman.

This will be welcoming news for National Hockey League franchises that are tight to the cap right now, as well as players who are set to become unrestricted and restricted free agents in early July.

For someone like Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, who is under contract for two more years following the current campaign, it could mean that his next AAV will be in the $18-20 million USD range, however that depends on a number of factors including if the salary cap rises again in 2026 and 2027.

As for this coming summer, if the league's salary cap does go to $97 million USD or close to that figure, then it'll help Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin significantly as he tries to negotiate a contract for American forward Brock Boeser.

If the salary cap exceeds $100 million in the coming years, do you think Quinn Hughes should get $20 million AAV on his next contract?
