The Canucks are about to start their season and Patrik Allvin will have to move things around in order to maximize the cap space.

The Canucks are currently holding an elevated number of players at the NHL level. With Dakota Joshua and Pius Suter sidelined with injuries, the door is going to be open for youngsters like Aatu Raty and Arshdeep Bains to crack the line-up. Patrik Allvin will have to be careful with how he spends his money and that might mean sending Tucker Poolman to the Long-Term-Injury-Reserve.

Roster Movement coming in Vancouver: Tucker Poolman on LTIR

It wasn't the Canucks' plans at first, but the number of injured players will force Patrik Allvin to make use of the Long-Term-Injury-Reserve with Tucker Poolman. Moving the Canucks defenceman to the LTIR will increase Patrik Allvin salary cap by the equivalent of Poolman's cap hit.

Thomas Drance was on the Donnie and Dhali show earlier and explained the strategy the Canucks were going to use to maximize their use of the salary cap.

Poolman to LTIR and surprises in the NHL?

By moving Poolman to LTIR, the Canucks will now have the room to possibly keep one of the surprising youngsters that have been extremely dominant through pre-season. Aatu Ratu and Arshdeep Bains' strong play has kept him with the big club through the entirety of training camp and now the Canucks will have to make a decision they weren't expecting.

Tocchet and Allvin will have to decide who they want to keep around between Nils Aman, Aatu Raty and Arshdeep Bains. Veterans like Teddy Blueger, Pius Suter and Kiefer Sherwood could also be at risk.
