A former Vancouver Canucks defenceman received a big gift head of the NHL's holiday break.
On Friday, TSN's Chris Johnston revealed that Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Ben Hutton has signed a two-year contract extension worth $1.95 million ($975,000 AAV).
"The #VGK sign Ben Hutton to a two-year extension carrying an AAV of $975,000." Johnston said.
Hutton, 30, was drafted by the Canucks 147th overall back in 2011 and he went on to play parts of four seasons in Vancouver, recording 70 points (11 goals, 57 assists), 111 penalty minutes and was a minus-75 in 276 games.
So far this season, the Brockville, Ontario native has appeared in 28 games for the Vegas Golden Knights where he's put up eight points, 15 penalty minutes and is a plus-seven while averaging 16:13 of ice time per night.
