MAJOR | Canucks have made an important decision regarding Vilmer Alriksson
The Canucks used their 4th Round Selection in this year's draft to select the 6'6'' giant Vilmer Alriksson. The winger showed great things at the team's development camp earlier this summer, and the Canucks could've landed a gem in the making.
The Guelph Storm in the OHL recognized the winger's potential and decided to select him in the CHL's European Draft. The Canucks have now made an important decision regarding his development and his North-American future.
Daniel Wagner first broke the News; the initial thought was Alriksson would be going back to Sweden to continue his development. However, the Canucks had different ideas in mind since they decided he'd be staying in North America:
''At #Canucks prospect camp, Vilmer Alriksson thought he would be back in Sweden next season.
Evidently, the Canucks had other ideas. He was selected by the Guelph Storm in the CHL Import Draft, and has committed to playing in the OHL next season.''
The big-format winger will be able to perfect his craft on North America's smaller rinks. Alriksson could spend two years in the AHL before graduating to Abbotsford to continue his development. Perhaps he could end up being one of the draft's steal?
