J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson have the opportunity to break a franchise record in their next three games
It's not a secret to anyone at this point that the team has been offensively driven by two players, Elias Pettersson, and J.T. Miller. Pettey's two-way game has made him an elite two-way centerman in the league, while Miller's been on fire ever since the coaching change.
Pettersson and Miller connected for this beauty of a goal on the penalty kill on Saturday against the Flames. On that sequence, Pettersson scored his 38th goal and 99th point on the season, putting him only one point short of the 100-point-barrier:
This was yet another goal on which the two Canucks' superstars paired up on the penalty kill. Both Millsy and Pettey now count 5 goals, and 4 assists for 9 points when down a man. Meaning they have now tied Pavel Bure and Russ Courtnall for the most point on the PK in a single season:
''Combining for tonight's 2-0 shorthanded goal, Elias Pettersson (5-4-9) and J.T. Miller (5-4-9) each tied Pavel Bure (1992.93, 1997.98) and Russ Courtnall (1995.96) for most shorthanded points (9) by a #Canucks player in a single season.''
Miller and Pettersson now have 3 games in hand to establish a new franchise record. Bure tallied 9 PK points/season twice in his career, in 1992-1993, a season in which he put 110 points on the board, and in 1997-1998, when he then had 90 on the year.
J.T. Miller had received one vote last season on the Selke Trophy ballot, but Pettersson's two-way game has really gone up a notch, should he be considered for this award after being named the team's MVP?
